This morning was the Day School Dash - the fundraiser for our friends in Sweetwaters, South Africa. The children were registered to participate in the Fun Run, but Daddy decided that it would be fun for Charlie to run with him in the 5k. So, while the boys ran in the 5k, the girls (minus Jane Gray who was in Oxford with the Hursts) volunteered with Rhonda and Bella on the race course and cheered the runners on. Mommy was concerned that Daddy wouldn't wait on Charlie during the race, so you can imagine our surprise when Charlie beat Daddy! Charlie was the winner in his age group, and he was the second FPDS student (the first was a Fifth grader) to cross the finish line. We were so impressed! It was his first run, and the course was very tough because Belhaven is so hilly. Charlie didn't seemed fazed at all though. In fact, it was reported that he was hurdling over the traffic cones during the race! Next came the Fun Run. Meg was so excited! She ran so hard and was the first kindergartner to cross the finish line!
