Halloween

Our neighborhood had a Halloween party at the Hollingsworths' house. Daddy pulled Pop's trailer for a hayride, which was the hit of the party (Meg and Mommy rode shotgun)! After a couple of hayrides, the kids ate dinner and went trick-or-treating. It was such a fun night for our kitty cat (Jane Gray), T Rex (Charlie), and Cinderella (Meg)!

Meg trick or treating at school

Meg's class at school went trick or treating to the other classrooms. She and some of her buddies rode up and down the hallway in a wagon eating candy all along the way. She had a great time!

Charlie's class at the pumpkin patch

Shelby Segrest, Ella's mom, took this cute picture of Charlie's class at the pumpkin patch. Every child was given a bag for their pumpkins. Charlie assumed that meant you got to take as many pumpkins as the bag would hold. When he was told that he could only pick one pumpkin, Charlie said, "But there's so much room in my bag!"

Charlie's first book

Charlie is learning how to read. Tonight, he read his first book, Cat, to his Daddy.

Jane Gray playing the piano

Jane Gray is taking piano lessons from our neighbor, Mrs. Fox. Jane Gray loves to play the piano. Her favorite piece is Yankee Doodle. She plays it over and over and over again. She can even play it while looking at the ceiling (Daddy's idea).

Pumpkin carving

Tonight, we carved our biggest pumpkin. The kids drew their favorite pumpkin faces, and Daddy carved the winning design - a happy face. Meg was fascinated by the pumpkin - she kept pointing to it and peering inside it. Jane Gray and Charlie loved collecting the seeds. They have big plans for a pumpkin patch in their backyard. When Daddy finished carving the pumpkin, we put a candle in it and placed it by the front door. The kids loved it!

Whit's Halloween party

Whit Anderson invited Charlie and Meg to his Halloween party this afternoon. Charlie dressed up as Batman (he was one of three Batmen at the party - Whit and Benjamin Bays were the other two), and Meg was Cinderella. Charlie spent most of the party sword-fighting with Luke Smith, and Meg got her fill of climbing up Whit's fort's ladder and sliding down the slide.

Nichols-Boyd pumpkin patch

After church, we packed a picnic lunch and headed to the Nichols-Boyd pumpkin patch. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and we were blessed to have Cousin Laurie with us. We sat at the front of the hayride and got up close and personal with some goats, cows, donkeys, and a zedonk. The kids loved picking out their own pumpkins. Our only instruction to them was to pick out one they could carry! There were six of us, so six pumpkins! We've got a lot of carving to do.

Ole Miss-Arkansas game

We woke up early this morning to make the 11:30 kickoff. Charlie wore his Daddy's Archie Manning jersey, and the girls dressed in their favorite Ole Miss gear (on a sad note, it was Jane Gray's first Ole Miss game not in a cheerleader outfit - she's growing up). When we arrived in Oxford, we stopped for snacks and then headed straight to the stadium. It was a fun game, with the Rebels prevailing. Meg was so sure of a win, she fell asleep in the fourth quarter on the shoulder of the sweet lady who sits in front of us. After the game, we met up with the Hursts and went to the Grove. We ate and danced at the Minors' tent and visited some with Uncle Gaylon, too. Before driving back to Jackson, Jane Gray and Charlie couldn't resist rolling down the big hill across from the Student Union. It was a great day!

Movie night

Tonight, we ate pizza and had a movie night. The kids watched Babe, and the girls were so cute snuggled together.

Date night

Meg got to spend an evening with her Daddy all by herself - Daddy took Meg on a "date" to her preschool's fall festival. Meg dressed up in her Halloween outfit (a princess, of course), and she and Daddy ate pizza, played games, and visited with all of Meg's preschool buddies. Meg came home from her date so happy!

Pumpkins and firewood

Today, we hit the road for some firewood for Mommy. On the way to Yazoo City, we stopped off at the Montgomerys' deer camp near Canton for pumpkin painting, smores, swinging and visiting. Jane Gray and Charlie were more enthralled by the stray puppy than any of the other activities. After we had our fill of food and fun, we headed to Yazoo for firewood as the first cold snap was upon us. This was a fairly uneventful trip as we were on a mission with little time (had to make it back to Jackson for the Ole Miss/UAB kickoff). We saw a few deer, filled the Tahoe with firewood, explored the woods, and then headed home. Once we made it home, there was Ole Miss football, hamburgers and a roaring fire to end the day.
