Ole Miss-Memphis game

We had so much fun in Oxford hanging out on the Square, watching a baseball scrimmage and getting a CWS ball signed by all of the Ole Miss players, playing on the field before the game, and watching Ole Miss beat Memphis!

Johnny Appleseed Day

The first grade has been studying Johnny Appleseed this week.  Today, they bobbed for apples, and poor Meg couldn't pick one up because she has too many teeth missing!

Post-swim meet celebration

We celebrated a successful swim meet with Chick-fil-a and Menchie's yogurt.

MAIS swim meet

Jane Gray and Charlie swam in the MAIS swim meet today; Meg decided not to swim because she didn't want to miss school.  Ha!  Jane Gray swam very well in the freestyle and breast stroke individual races.  Charlie swam in the freestyle and medley relays with Warner Russ, Banks Hewitt, and Evans Reynolds.  The boys came within 0.03 seconds of breaking the record in the free relay and 2 seconds of breaking the record in the medley relay.  They also swept the individual events in the 1st-3rd grade boys competition with Charlie taking the first place ribbon in the breast and back strokes.  They swam so well, and First Pres won the state elementary division!

Nightly Reading Time

One of life's special times is the nightly reading (except when it's the end of the day and everyone has been crazy and we parents don't want to do it - but despite all that occurring nearly every night, this turns out to be a sweet break every time).  Meg is such a great reader.

Afternoon work trip to Louise

After the race (and Charlie's two soccer games), we headed to Louise to get a few things done.  The kids worked hard clearing trails, building things, putting up deer stands, watching beans be cut, and exploring.  The day was capped with a beautiful sunset - it was a great day.

The Way to Go Fun Run

While Mom was away, the little Barbours participated in a one mile fun run.  Due to potential college savings prizes for first place, Charlie and Meg had done some training prior to the race.  Prospects for Charlie winning his age group were good, and we were just hoping Meg would make it to the finish line.  Once the runners took off, I walked to the other side of the lap to cheer them on, but noticed the lead runners had taken the wrong route - and Charlie was one of them.  He returned to the route, but the others didn't - and it cost him victory as he came in second.  However, sweet, little Meg rolled to victory and a nice scholarship!

First home Ole Miss football game

The Rebels played ULL this weekend in Oxford, and we were there!  Daddy, Mommy, Charlie, and Meg (Jane Gray was spending the night with some friends) drove to Como Friday night for yummy steaks and then spent the night in Oxford.  The Browns arrived from Memphis on Saturday to hang out with us and go to the game.  Jane Gray arrived just in time for the game, and we all had a blast together cheering the Rebels on to victory!

Fireworks at Navy Pier

We went back to Navy Pier for one last hooray - a ride on the ferris wheel and fireworks.  We had a wonderful trip to Chicago!
