Hurricane Isaac
Hurricane Isaac was nothing compared to Hurricane Katrina. We did not lose power, but school did get cancelled. We spent our day off playing games, baking cookies, and making a banner and paper airplanes (we had to do something boy-ish!).

Ric Rutledge
Meg and Mommy waited and waited for the arrival of baby Ric. And, when he finally arrived, we fought over who got to hold him. He is so precious!

Superstar Jane Gray
Jane Gray's class has a superstar every week, and Jane Gray was the class's first superstar. She made this poster about herself and treated the class to Reese's cookies she and Mommy made together.

Sunday Afternoon
Laura had a church meeting this afternoon, so the rest of us went for a bike ride through the neighborhood, stopping to play at the Ridgeways' playground for a while. On the way back, and as they generally do, the kids requested race time in the Hoods' front yard. We'll have to call this one a tie.

Meg's first day of Covenant kindergarten
Meg is in the kindergarten class this year. She is so excited about it and did not look back when Mommy dropped her off for her first day. When Mommy picked her up, Meg was all smiles until she broke the news that she didn't have any homework. Meg wants to be just like her older sister and brother and have homework. She is so funny!

Last days of summer at the zoo
Meg, Christy, and Audrey spent their last days of summer together at the zoo. Meg and Audrey played together yesterday and loved the merry-go-round. Today, Christy went with us to play in the zoo's new splash pad.

Covenant Preschool open house
Meg met her teacher, Mrs. Brown, this morning. Meg was a bit tongue-tied, which is unusual for her, but we fully expect her to be back to her loquacious self when school starts on Wednesday.

Louise Work Day
Charlie and Daddy met Uncle Will in Louise at sunrise to have a work day. Charlie was a big help painting the new duck blind. We also worked on several deer stands, put boards in pipes, trudged through sky high Johnson grass (was not Charlie's favorite part), and in general, played in the dirt. Charlie disappeared for a while only to return with a nice deer antler. Since we didn't need his help at the time, I told him the other side was probably in the same woods somewhere, and he disappeared again later returning with another shed antler - he was fired up. We dropped by the house in Yazoo City on the way back to hit the garden and inspect the destruction - interesting.

First day of school
Today was Jane Gray and Charlie's first days of fourth and first grade. Jane Gray's teacher is Mrs. Lytton, and Charlie's teacher is Mrs. Humphries. They are both very excited about their teachers and classmates. Sayley, Sarah, Tatum, Kate and Selah are in Jane Gray's class. Charlie's friend, Jake, is in his class.

Hermit crabs
The children found several hermit crabs at the beach. We decided to keep two and release the others. Charlie was very sad, but Jane Gray cheered him up by buying a land hermit crab with the money she won in the oyster challenge.
Seashell hunting
Daddy bought some beautiful shells for the children and Mommy to "find" at the beach. We also saw more rays and dolphins.
Charlie fishing with Pop
The highlight of the trip for Charlie was fishing with Pop. They caught two fish, a Lane Snapper and a Mangrove Snapper, and had a great time! Charlie also enjoyed chasing blue herons.
