Space Center Houston
Our second day in Houston was spent at the Space Center. The Space Center is huge, so we spent the whole day there. We started our day on the NASA tram tour. We toured Mission Control and the Saturn V facility. Isn't Saturn V huge? The rockets looked so big next to the children! The tour took several hours, so we ate a quick lunch before heading to Mars at the Blast Off exhibit. After our launch, we learned about the current NASA mission to Mars via the Curiosity rover as well as the future mission - a real astronaut on Mars! After our trip to Mars, we went inside the Explorer, a full-scale space shuttle replica. The children were particularly interested in what the astronauts ate. We also enjoyed the Starship Gallery, which features the world's largest display of moon rocks. The children even touched the moon; the moon rock they touched is 3,800,000,000 years old! After the obligatory purchase of souvenirs (a NASA teddy bear for Meg, a toy space shuttle for Charlie, two meteorites for Jane Gray, and a Christmas tree ornament for Daddy), we left to pick up Daddy for home.
